Drishti IAS, a well-known coaching institute in Mukherjee Nagar, Delhi, is moving to Noida. This change follows the closure of their center by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). The closure was due to a tragic incident where three civil service aspirants died in a basement flood in Delhi's Old Rajender Nagar in July.
Current Situation
Drishti IAS, led by founder and managing director Dr. Vikas Divyakirti, has been significantly affected by the closure. The Mukherjee Nagar area, known for its coaching institutes, is facing major disruptions. Classes are suspended, causing uncertainty for students, businesses, and landlords. Many students are relocating to other areas like Karol Bagh and Wazirabad. Some coaching institutes may also leave Mukherjee Nagar because the buildings do not meet government regulations.
Drishti IAS's Response
In response to the tragedy, Drishti IAS announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased students. Dr. Divyakirti also supported stricter government guidelines for coaching institutes and expressed a willingness to cooperate with authorities.
Legal Developments
A Delhi court has denied bail to four joint owners of the basement where the flood occurred. The court highlighted the role of MCD officers in failing to address complaints but stated the owners were not solely responsible. Earlier, on July 31, a magistrate court had also rejected bail pleas for some involved parties.
Future of Mukherjee Nagar
The closure of Drishti IAS and the movement of other coaching institutes signal a major change in Mukherjee Nagar’s educational environment. As institutions and students adapt to new locations, the future of the area remains uncertain.
