Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena, suggested making parking fees the same for both government and private buses at the city's bus terminals (ISBTs). This change aims to increase the use of these terminals, which currently serve fewer buses than they can handle.
Delhi has three ISBTs: Kashmere Gate, AnandVihar, and Sarai Kale Khan. Together, they can manage 3,000 buses daily, but due to issues like different parking fees and long waiting times, they only handle around 1,700 buses each day. This leads to buses parking illegally on the roads, causing traffic problems.
After inspecting the Kashmere Gate ISBT, VK Saxena proposed new rules to fix parking fees. The goal is to reduce traffic, stop financial losses for state-run buses, and improve the use of ISBTs. The new rules will charge buses based on how long they park, and only buses with Fastag stickers will be allowed inside, making the process quicker.
If these changes are made, the ISBTs could run more smoothly and handle more buses.
