Aman Sehrawat faced a big challenge to compete in the 57 kg bronze medal match after losing in the semi-finals. He weighed 61.5 kg after his match and needed to quickly cut down to 57 kg. With only 10 hours before the weigh-in, he had to lose 4.5 kg.
Aman, with the help of his coaches Jagmander Singh and Virender Dahiya, began an intense weight-loss plan. They worked hard through the night. First, Aman spent an hour and a half wrestling, then took a hot bath. Next, he ran on a treadmill for an hour to sweat out extra weight. After a short rest, he did five rounds of 5-minute sauna baths. Despite these efforts, he was still 900 grams over the limit.
In a final effort, Aman got a massage and did light jogging, completing five 15-minute running sessions. By 4:30 am, he weighed 56.9 kg, just under the limit, which relieved his team.
During this period, Aman stayed hydrated with lukewarm water, lemon, honey, and a bit of coffee. He stayed awake by watching wrestling videos to stay focused. Coach Dahiya was concerned because another wrestler, Vinesh Phogat, was disqualified for being just 100 grams over the limit. They knew that they couldn’t afford any mistakes and needed to secure a medal.
